“And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold” (Matthew 24:12).

These words were spoken by Jesus in what is known as the Olivet Prophecy. They are sobering words for us to consider. We do not like to think of ourselves as one of those whose love has grown cold. Yet it is important for us to examine ourselves to see where we stand.

The good news is that we have help in growing in godly love. The first part of the verse above states that the problem exists because “lawlessness will abound.” This requires prayer to seek God’s help in obeying His laws. Through His Holy Spirit, God gives the wisdom, guidance and direction necessary for us to succeed. It is also through the Holy Spirit we receive the ability to develop true love and concern for others.

Actively look for opportunities to demonstrate that love. By applying these principles, you will be well on your way to assuring that your love does not grow cold.
