Satan has the power to look good—like an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). People, too, have learned that assuming a pleasing appearance and using pleasing words is a powerful tool in swaying others to do our wishes and bidding. What appears beautiful on the outside can often cover the inner parts that are full of wickedness.

Jesus had something to say to the Pharisees about that (Matthew 23:25-26). He told them they were preoccupied with cleaning the outside of the cup and forgetful about what was inside.

Jesus advises us to clean up the inside first, and the outside will follow suit. This is what we see in people around us who are truly beautiful. It starts with the character of the person and radiates outward. We should strive for the same.
