When we find ourselves face-to-face with a staggering defeat, it can help to look to and learn from those who have traveled difficult roads and prevailed. Take Joni Eareckson Tada, for example. On a hot July afternoon, the young 17-year-old dove into a shallow lake that changed her life forever. Joni snapped her neck and was left as a quadriplegic. Determined not to give up, she learned how to paint with a paintbrush in her teeth. Today she is an internationally known artist, author, speaker and radio host.

The author of Hebrews instructs, “Strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet” (Hebrews 12:12-13). Because Joni did not give up when she doubtless wanted to, she now inspires many by her example and drive to succeed!

Don’t give up. Like Joni, you can beat the odds—and inspire others.
