The Bible tells us we will have difficult days, less things that bring pleasure, we lose strength, and our eyes grow dim. We find music less stimulating, we avoid hard work because our bones ache and "the grasshopper is a burden" (Ecclesiastes 12:1-5). The reason is that we are created with bodies that will die. Old age is an indication of the failing of the body. All too soon, that which empowers life fails.

Knowing that ought to be all the stimulus we need to be sure that we are right with our Creator. We can do that much more readily if we find Him when we are young and full of energy. Seeking God when we are old, tired and with failing senses, is leaving things too late. The Bible would not encourage the search for God if it were not needful. With God in our lives during our youth, we avoid errors and sins that leave scars and regrets that make old age even more sorrowful. We are given opportunities enough and words of advice. Most people turn a deaf ear and go merrily on their way. They do not realize that they will stand before their Creator to answer for their lives. Find God in your youth, and when you do, hold on to Him. Then old age will have moments of contentment and a hope beyond these bodies.
