We judge the nature and character of people by what our eyes tell us. To forbid that is impossible, but to understand the danger of a misjudgment ought to be clear to us. Jesus said not to judge by appearances (John 7:24). But He also said we were to judge with righteous judgment. Paul was also concerned about people jumping to conclusions about the spiritual condition of another through their appearance (2 Corinthians 10:7).

Knowing that we will leave an impression on others by the first appearance we give them should be enough of a prod to make us take some care in what we look like. Are we smiling or glum? Do we look neat or unkempt? Do we have enough consideration for an occasion to dress appropriately? Our outer appearance does reflect some of what is in us, so it is important. Remember to take your outward appearance into consideration in the morning so we can put our best impression forward.

yes, very disapponting. We leave impression on others all the time and in any situation. I'm not mowing my yard in a suit or grocery shopping in blue jeans in 95 degree heat. If someone "jumps to conclusions" well that's their problem. Haven't we had enough of trying to control what others think in their minds.
