The Bible tells us that it is to be chosen rather than riches (Proverbs 22:1). It takes years to build a good reputation or good name, and that is why it is something to be sought after. It reflects the true character and nature of a person.

Warren Buffett wrote: "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently." It is interesting to note that it does not take 20 years to build a bad reputation—that can come quickly. A wise person will choose the words and actions that protect that hard-won treasure.
