"In 1998, 9 percent of American adults told the General Social Survey they were spiritual but not religious. By 2008, it had risen to 14 percent. Among those ages 18 to 39, the increase was even more dramatic, and 18 percent now say they are spiritual but not religious" (Christianity Today, September 2010, p. 74).
Spiritual sounds more sexy and religion sounds too structured, stale and demanding to today’s searchers. But pure religion, as defined by the Bible, is truly personal, real and spiritual.
"Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world" (James 1:27 James 1:27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
American King James Version×).
Having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and following His example of service to those in need is anything but stale and meaningless. But it is demanding, and fulfilling!
