“Two men looked out from prison bars—one saw mud, the other saw stars.” This old quote says a lot. In the ghettos of Prague during World War II, Jewish children were encouraged to draw pictures of flowers and open fields rather than the ugliness of the war. Not only were they happier, they also were healthier. What we see has everything to do with how we will react to it.

Our Creator knows that we need hope. He sent His Son to give us all the hope that we need. We may see only mud in our lives, but by shifting our focus onto something bigger than us all, we too can see the stars. Lift up your eyes to your Creator (Psalm 121:1).
