German chancellor Gerhard Schröder was 8 months old when World War II ended. His father was a German soldier killed in action in Rumania before Schröder ever got to know him. Schröder's Secretary of the Interior, Otto Schily, was 13 years old when the war ended. Among other things, Schily is now responsible for Germany's homeland security. Read more.
