Book Review - NIV Archaeological Study Bible: An Illustrated Walk Through Biblical History and Culture

While I prefer the New King James Version for more doctrinal studies, this is a beautiful Bible, with loads of historical information throughout. It has beautiful photos, color maps and historical timelines. Throughout each book and chapter there are cultural and historical notes sections as well as ancient texts and artifacts sections that coincide with the particular time period or place that the book was written. Sprinkled throughout the Bible are archeological facts that prove the reliability of the Bible.

Another great aspect of this Bible are the book introductions. Before each book there is a page of information on the author, place and date of writing, who the audience was, cultural highlights and well laid-out timelines of the book.

The cover is very sturdy, however, the pages are ultra thin, this is definitely not a Bible you want to carry around with you, as the pages are more fragile. Some books have wider margins with plenty of room for notes, unfortunately, it is not the case throughout the Bible, many of the books have very narrow margin, which I found to be a frustrating feature. This is a great Bible if you are looking to sit down and study and understand the Bible in context of history and culture.
