       Is It True that the

              Navaho Indians Won World War II

                      for the United States ?

Throughout history, allied armies have striven to communicate secretly with each other while enemies have striven to intercept and interpret these same messages. In the middle of World War II the Americans and British successfully cracked German and Japanese military codes to gain a huge tactical advantage. But what is also notable is that from 1943 to the end of this same war, Navajo Indians were utilized to create a secret code by which they could encrypt vital military information that needed to be communicated.  The Japanese could never decipher that secret code.

 

          As to the notion that the codebreaking was easy or merely followed on a single flash of brilliance early in the war, both notions are false. The codebreaking of the Allies was the result of applied brainpower, then applied machinery and man- (and woman-) power, as well as sheer luck that was akin to the tremendous industrial effort of the United States during wartime production.           The work was a huge project consuming massive resources, mechanical as well as mental. It was so massive, in fact, that the Germans believed it could not be done, and that their codes were safe from decryption analysis. This is why they never quite caught on to the fact that their radio transmissions were in part being read by their enemies.

          By the time the British decoded messages within the German High Command, British General Montgomery successfully drove German general Rommel’s army back across north Africa. He knew exactly how many tanks, men, ammo and food supplies the Germans had. Also by the time of the Normandy invasion, British and American agents had a clear understanding of what the Japanese and German military command was planning to do.

          Yet on the other hand… the Germans and Japanese could not decipher the American’s

military codes of communication.  Much of this is because the Americans were

using the Navajo language to encrypt messages; especially against the Japanese. Who would have ever thought that the key to American military secrets would be to use the language of a North American Indian tribe?

      It was William Shakespeare who coined the phrase “It’s all Greek to me”. In World War II, the Germans and Japanese could say (if they only knew) … “Those secret Allied messages? – why they are all Navaho to us.” – impossible to understand.

 

According to a recent Epoch Times article,

“The Navajo Code Talkers had a hand in every major Marine operation in the Pacific theater and were never successfully decoded by the Japanese codebreakers. At the Battle of Iwo Jima, 800 messages had been transmitted and received by the Code Talkers without error. 

 

Major Howard Connor, a Marine officer of the signal division at Iwo Jima, once said, “Were it not for the Navajos, the Marines would never have taken Iwo Jima.” 

 

Because the Navajo code could potentially be valuable after the war, the Code Talkers were not given recognition until decades later after the code was declassified. In 2001, Begay himself received a Congressional Silver Medal for his service as a code talker, which is engraved with a slogan in Navajo: “Diné bizaad yee atah Naayéé' Yik'eh Deesdlíí.” Which means, “The Navahoes defeated the enemy”

Do you have to decipher a secret Bible code to understand it?

 

           Now contrast this awareness with the Bible. While everyone can understand sections of the Bible, a number of prophecies and deeper points of Christianity are not understood by the general populace. It is as if many points of the Bible are encrypted in a secret code that most people do not understand. We may take our understanding for granted but people generally do not understand the Bible unless God “calls” them by opening their minds.

          A classic case in point occurred when twin sisters invited a minister to visit them and answer their Bible questions. When the visit was over, one sister said “That is the craziest explanation I have ever heard” while the other sister stated, “That is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard”. One was “called” and the other was not.

          From John 6:44 we know that God has a time table for everybody and He eventually opens everyone’s mind to grasping the complete Bible…yet not all at the same time.  Those who do not understand the Bible now will come to fully understand it later. Part of why God does not call everyone now is because some people are so stubborn that even if they understood the Bible, they likely would not have enough character to live by it.

          Luke 12:47-48 states that God expects much more of people who understand His Bible.

           “And a servant that knows what the Master wants, but isn’t prepared and doesn’t carry out those instructions, will be severely punished.  But someone who does not know and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.” (NLT)

           Let us be glad that we are blessed to understand God’s Bible now and know in advance of what God will do with mankind. Of course, what makes this possible is the sacrifice of our Savior, Intercessor and High Priest, Jesus Christ. Without His sacrifice for us, we would have no connection with the Tree of Life and we would forever be separated from our Creator.

          As the ministry is striving to bring out at this time of year, we need to focus on Passover and the Beginning of God’s master plan that begins with what is pictured by the spring holy days. When you can, please read Victor Kubik’s recent member letter which appeals to all us to carefully weigh the Bible’s encouragement and admonishment to ‘make ourselves ready’ this holy day season.

 

TALLAHASSEE    Church services will be at the “Farm” at 1:30 this Sabbath. Pat and Court Greenfield will be there this weekend. Court will conduct church services and he and Pat will be back for Passover, Night to be Observed and the First Day of Unleavened Bread.

FT MYERS     This weekend Bill Wilson will be giving the sermon and in addition to several snowbirds, we expect several new people who have moved into the area to come. I should add that the Crumblisses would be grateful for on-going prayers for Ron Crumbliss.

OCALA     I will be in Ocala and give a split sermon with Stan Braumuller. We are hoping that the Winnes will be with us. We had quite an animated Sabbath last week.
