Soup Kitchen - Eagle Rock - Once a Month Volunteers

There is a group in our church community that has been volunteering one Monday a month for a Soup Kitchen located at Wertz Hall at the SDA church on Merton Ave in Eagle Rock (our old church location). We call ourselves “The Fourth Monday Volunteers” because we volunteer on the fourth Monday of each month.

We provide food and a spiritual message to about 45–60 people each time. We now serve a chicken strip dinner in take-out containers starting at 4:30pm.  After we finish at approximately 6:00 pm we send a few people with any extra food to homeless encampments under the nearby freeway.

In addition, the Grinnell family have started providing a hygiene kit with socks, toothpaste, etc. for the people.  We would like to expand that effort to add clothes, blankets, Bibles and ponchos. Our friends will gladly appreciate them.

We can always use more volunteers, so if the Lord moves you to serve in this way feel free to join us whenever you can. If we can get enough volunteers, we could also possibly take on an additional Monday night. We can also use more speakers that can help provide a message for the poor and needy. Most of all, we need prayers for safety and for God’s love to be shown by all to all.

Please contact Bob Brown or Bill Grinnell if you would like to serve or just come and see what it’s all about. It will be a learning experience and a blessing to do this work.
