North Canton – 2:30 p.m.                     Pittsburgh – 2:30 p.m.

Greetings brethren,

In the following I want to develop a subject that you may find useful in your personal study of God’s Word:

The Four Levels of Teaching & Learning

A few years ago while working at the Church's main office in Cincinnati and teaching at the Ambassador Bible College, I got to thinking about how we learn and how teachers should teach.

After mulling awhile and reflecting on various "education" scriptures in the Bible a process distilled in my mind. It helped with my teaching and helped the learning process for some of the students. Here is the essence of the concept:

Level 1: "know"

Teach to know, and learn to know. We naturally gather knowledge and on occasion almost everyone will teach someone else. The first step is to teach or learn to know the information. Every topic or discipline begins with gathering basic knowledge--including the study of God's Word.

Level 2: "do"

Teaching to do is based on the use of what the student or disciple has come to know. This is application, making the knowledge work. It includes realizing and acting on the knowledge that God expects us to personally obey His Word and law.

Level 3: "be/believe"

The teacher teaches and the disciple learns to believe the knowledge that he now understands and practices. When the knowledge is of a motivational nature--like God's way of life, one learns to believe and in applying that knowledge learn to "be" - as in being a true Christian.

Level 4: "teach"

Thanks to the diligent teacher's teaching, the student or disciple has come to know and understand the knowledge, has applied the knowledge to his or her life, really believes the teaching as life-changing. And now the disciple is motivated to share the knowledge in an instructional way with others.

As you progress in your studies, each level deepens your conviction, motivation and desire to apply it to your life and to help others learn the vital knowledge so they may also grow to deeper and deeper levels of learning and teaching. The 12 Apostles and their brethren went through this process of learning and then teaching to build the Church of God, of which Christ is the Head.

Learn to know. Learn to do. Learn to be and believe. And then learn to teach others how to also learn.

Keep the true faith and spread it!

In Christ's service,
Randy Stiver, Pastor
