Under His Wings

There are many analogies in the Bible that relate how something in nature shows God's love and plan for us, so when we see these things in nature it gives us constant reminders of this.

When I walk around the mobile home park in which I live, I always see this group of ducks, including young ducklings that are feeding in the grass with the mother hen watching over them to keep them safe. As I walk down the path through the park, the ducks will be feeding in the grass next to the path. The mother hen will be standing facing the path to protect the ducklings who are feeding.

As I get closer, she will give me the evil eye and sometimes even hiss at me if she thinks I'm getting too close. This reminds me of the scripture where Jesus Christ said "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” (Matthew 23:37).

Psalms 91:4 tells us that "He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge;…”

God wants to protect us like this mother hen protects her chicks if we are willing. I'm much larger than this mother hen, but she is ready to sacrifice her life for her chicks, just as Christ willingly gave His life for us.

She loves and protects her chicks just as God loves and protects us, gathering us under His wings. Every time I walk down this path and see that mother hen, I am reminded of how Christ gave His life for me, and how much He loves and protects me every day.

How comforting to know we are under God's wings!
