                                                                         Sowing Good Seeds

                                                                        (Anita G. Hamill, Eureka)

Growing up on a farm helped me to understand the principles of sowing seeds and harvest time.   It is a beautiful thing to plant a very small seed and watch it sprout, grow and produce a tasty vegetable or a beautiful flower.  It is a miracle indeed!

Spiritually speaking, there are only two kinds of seeds in this world. The good seeds come down from God and the bad seeds are sown by the evil one and our carnal nature.  Both types of seeds are available to us every day, free of charge.  However, the bad seeds will cost us in the long run.

 A good description of these two seed types can be found in Galatians 5:19-23.  Seeds from the evil one and our carnal nature are sown as works of the flesh.  The good seeds from God are listed as fruits of the Spirit.  It is entirely up to each individual which seeds they choose to sow.  We can also name the seeds either selfishness or service to others.

Life seems to be all about choices; what we think, what we say and how we act.  Every choice we make incorporates a seed for either good or bad, selfishness or service to God and others.  There is so much power in our words, thoughts and actions and how they affect others around us, to either help or to hurt.  Great power!

Also, what we allow into our own minds and bodies is what we will become.   We belong to God and He wants us to be filled with love, joy and peace and to take care of our health as much as possible.  The evil one and our own carnal desires are far too eager to sow seeds of destruction at every opportunity, so be on guard and choose wisely.

Today, we all live in a fast paced, concrete world, where it is difficult to find and meditate on the beauty of creation and all the lessons that we can learn from that.  Most people are no longer farmers, working the soil and planting the seeds.

Therefore, it is so important for us to make the time and find a place to slow down and reconnect with the Creator of all life; to consider His inspired words of wisdom.  “Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord until He comes and showers righteousness on you” (Hosea 10:12). NIV

Whichever seeds we decide to sow, we can be sure of one thing, we will reap what we sow, as it says in Galatians 6:7-8.   Then let us be determined to plant as many good seeds as possible, before the rains come.  God promises to bless our efforts in II Corinthians 9:6-15.

I would like to share this verse from my song,

The Planting of The Lord:

                                                                         Growing forth as a garden,

Bright and joyous we’ll be,

Planting seeds for the future

And tending to them carefully.

Bearing much fruit in the world now,

Giving to all who come near;

Every good seed shall be planted

 And angels will rise up and cheer.
