×The brethren in St. Lucia are typical of the welcoming, warm and friendly approach of the St. Lucian people. Visitors can experience the relaxed flavor of island life on an island tour, as well as the unique mixture of Amerindian, West African, European and East Indian influences that infuse the local cuisine.
St. Lucia is in the business of creating lasting first impressions: Visitors to the island are greeted by the unforgettable sight of the famed Pitons, two volcanic plugs in a World Heritage site. Both Gros and Petit Piton, as they are called, rise abruptly over 2,400 feet above sea level. The combination of the Pitons against the backdrop of green tropical vegetation and a varying topography combined with the marine foreground give the area a majestic and superlative beauty. The nearby La Soufriere volcano, locally known as the Sulphur Springs, is considered the only drive-in volcano in the world. The road runs right up to and through the crater that emits steam, sulfurous gases and boiling mud. There is a stream running through the crater which channels into well-established hot springs and mud baths further down. These bathing pools are reputed to have therapeutic qualities for the skin, resulting in many visitors to this historic site.
A few of the many other attractions include diving, rain forest zip-lining/hiking, water sports, hiking at nearby Pigeon Island and local handicraft gift shopping. The end result is a Feast site that will captivate visitors long after the emerald-green peaks of the Pitons have disappeared over the horizon.
The Feast this year will be held in the northern part of the island at Harmony Suites Hotel. Brethren from Trinidad, Dominica and elsewhere in the southern Caribbean will be joining us in St. Lucia this year.
The Harmony Suites sits directly on Rodney Bay, and is a five-minute walk from one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. For more information about Harmony Suites, visit their website at www.harmonysuites.com/.
Services will be held in the Harmony Suites Hotel conference center. The meeting room capacity is around 100, and we expect to reach that number.
Overseas Feastgoers are welcome to book at the Harmony Suites, but may also book elsewhere. There is a wide variety of accommodation available within walking distance. For a list of recommended accommodation, please e-mail us at stluciafot@gmail.com.
There are two airports on the island. The Hewanorra International Airport at Vieux Fort (UVF) is 40 miles south of Castries and a 1 ½ hour drive from the Feast site. Taxi fare is $80-$100 one-way. The smaller George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) in Castries is approximately 20 minutes away. There are no direct flights from to this airport from mainland U.S.; however, there are connections through San Juan.
To register for the Feast, please complete the registration form located at http://caribbean.ucg.org/content/st-lucia-2017. Since meeting space is limited, the maximum number of transfers we can accept is around 50. Acceptance will be first-come, first-serve, based upon the date your completed form is received.
