We are excited to announce that the Feast of Tabernacles this year will be kept in the quiet little beachside town of Orewa, within an hour’s drive north of Auckland (on New Zealand’s North Island).
If you are considering coming to New Zealand for the Feast, we strongly recommend you book accommodation early as the New Zealand school holidays begin on Friday Sept. 28.
There is plenty of accommodation; you can choose from the rustic feel of a cabin at the Top Ten Holiday Park or a posh holiday home on the cliffs overlooking the beach, or one of the many places within walking distance of the venue.
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes, with a variety of food types. Three major grocery stores are within 10 minutes drive, two are within walking distance of the venue (Orewa Community Centre). There are plenty of activities of every type available in the area—beach and water activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding and kite surfing, walking, hiking, playgrounds, thermal hot pools just over the hill in Waiwera, Wenderholm Regional Park, Snow Planet, go-karts, glass bottom boats, wineries, honey center, olive groves, spa services, chocolate-making shops, and other amazing beaches and parks further up the coast. There are also great shops—plenty of stores, boutiques, and second hand shops, or the Albany Mall that is a short drive south.
The average temperatures in Orewa during the Feast (springtime in the Southern Hemisphere) is generally 9-17 degrees Celsius (50-65 Fahrenheit), although with subtropical weather patterns it can feel a bit warmer than the numbers suggest.
