This is a tropical ocean resort area with housing covering all price ranges. Most accommodation located on or near spectacular beaches. The hinterland sports spectacular views and rainforest walks. This is our 13th year at this popular site. The Sunshine Coast is an easy 90-minute drive north of the Brisbane International Airport. Car rentals are available at the airport. Visitors must remember that we drive on the left side of the road in Australia. Shuttles run continually from the airport to Sunshine Coast. One of the best ways to exchange money for overseas visitors is through an ATM.
We meet at the Lake Kawana Community Centre, a modern, air-conditioned venue located between the towns of Mooloolaba and Caloundra and a short drive from the accommodation in these areas. Tea, coffee, water and snacks are served one hour before and one hour after services by one of our congregations to facilitate Feast fellowship.
Accommodation is generally one- to three-bedroom units with kitchen and living area, ranging from luxury units to economy. Most are on located on or within walking distance to the beach. Many are in high rises having ocean views, some which allow glimpses of migrating whales at this time of the year. Holiday homes are also available.
Restaurants and cafes are plentiful and varied in cuisine. You can also easily prepare any or all of your meals in your own unit as most are equipped with its own kitchen. Recreation activities revolve around beach and ocean—surfing, swimming, kayaking and whale-watching boat trips. Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo is a 30-minute drive away for viewing Australian wildlife and crocodile feeding shows. Rainforest and hinterland sightseeing is also popular. Some take advantage to visit the Great Barrier Reef while in Queensland on trips before or after the Feast.
Weather will be warm and generally sunny and ideal for outdoor activities. Any occasional rain in this subtropical setting does not curtail activities.
There is a normal range of activities—family day, young adults activity, seniors lunch, teen outing and an evening family social event for the whole family. You can visit our website (www.ucg.org.au ) later in the year for further updates on these activities and information about the Feast on the Sunshine Coast in 2017.
Opening service: Sunday evening, 7:30 p.m., Sept. 23.
First Holy Day service: 2 p.m., Monday, Sep. 24.
