Suriname, a former colony of the Netherlands, shares its border with Brazil and Guyana. Temperatures in this tropical rainforest country average 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
You will enjoy the authentic cultures and unique people from many different origins. The diversity of people from various parts of the world (who have retained most of their original customs) weave peacefully together to create a one-of-a-kind cultural experience. An assortment of traditions, languages, music, art and cuisine, all inherited from the indigenous, Indian, Indonesian, Chinese, Jewish, African and European ancestors is indispensable to the present culture that is still holding firm.
The coastal area is the most populated part of the country, along with its capital, Paramaribo. Maroon and indigenous tribes with well-kept ancient traditions and habits have their settlements mainly in the interior of the country.
Sermons will be given in both Dutch and English, with translation available.
Tours will be offered to include the Joden Savanna (ruins of a Jewish settlement and indigenous village). The capital Paramaribo to include Palm Garden and the U.S. Embassy, and the historical Commewyne Museum.
