2015 Feast of Tabernacles Report

New Delhi, India

A joyous Feast was held in India with 30 brethren rejoicing and worshiping together in New Delhi. There were 14 international and 16 Indian brethren in attendance. Brethren enjoyed inspiring messages and Bible studies, shared daily meals together and rejoiced in a millennial atmosphere as they grew to love one another, forming deep bonds of friendship.

India is known as the land of contrasts, and a visit to this country warmed the hearts of all who attended. Several of our international brethren said this was a life-changing experience.

New Delhi is rich in history and was the place from where the Mughal emperors ruled. It’s been the capital of India since olden times. Later in the 18th century when the English ruled the country, Kolkata became the capital. In 1911, the British transferred the capital back to Delhi. The brethren had the opportunity to explore the city and nearby points of interests on three afternoon tours during the Feast.

A variety show was held, and international and local Indian brethren participated with a variety of dances, songs and reciting of poetry and stories. It was an enjoyable evening, followed by a lovely dinner in a quaint outdoor Italian setting. Only in India can you travel to “Italy” for dinner.

Another special dinner was held outside on the beautiful lawn and gardens of the Umrao Hotel, where music was played and the staff graciously served our small group hors d’oeuvres and wonderful Indian and international cuisine.

Services during the Feast were primarily in English with translation into the Hindi language for the local Indian brethren. David and Jolinda Schreiber were able to attend the first half of the Feast in India and then departed for Sri Lanka. Ken and Ruth Murray came from Sri Lanka and spent the last half of the Feast in India.

Several international brethren joined the Murrays for a memorable post-Feast trip to Agra, where they toured the world famous Taj Mahal and then again enjoyed time with the Agra, India, brethren.

For those interested in enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime experience in a part of the world many seldom visit and rejoice with your brothers and sisters at the Feast in 2016—you are encouraged to come to incredible India!
