2016 UYC Camp Report: Camp Woodmen

Camp Woodmen ran from June 26-July 3 with 36 campers and 46 staff. The camp overlapped with others this year and led to a smaller number of campers at Woodmen. Since there were fewer campers, activity staff were able to participate in more activities with the dorms, which really brought the campers closer to the staff. The campers were also able to get to know each other better.

Two new activities at Woodmen this year were the “price is right” evening activity and team challenge. The “price is right” ran just like the television game show, with lots of energy and participation. Team challenge required participants to work together by solving puzzles in order to find a treasure. It was challenging, and everyone had fun working together as a group.

We participated in our normal camp activities including softball, ultimate Frisbee, speedaway, volleyball, basketball, dorm Christian living, archery, riflery, swimming, dance class, high ropes and campus improvement.

The weather was perfect. It rained for a bit on the first day, which left the weather in the comfortable 80s with low humidity. We were blessed to have a big storm go around us, not affecting any activities except for one swimming class. The weather was truly a blessing this year!

The food was the best it’s ever been! This was the first year our staff did all the cooking, and it really made a difference. Local brethren donated fresh eggs from their broods. They were “eggcellent”! Everyone was impressed and happy with the food this year.

The spiritual food was even more filling throughout the week, as the camp theme was “Guided by God’s Word.” Campers and staff were reminded throughout the week of the importance of looking to God and applying His Word in their lives.

This year of Woodmen was the best year yet; ask anyone who went, and they’ll most likely agree. The staff did a great job encouraging and serving. The campers also served in many areas, including staying in the Zone. We look forward to another great camp next year!
