2018 Feast of Tabernacles

Passikudah, Sri Lanka

The Pearl of the Indian Ocean—a tribute to the island’s natural beauty, it’s people and even it’s shape.

Inspiring messages, close family camaraderie and delicious shared meals at the hotel restaurant buffet were hallmarks of the Feast. Staying together in the same resort and having daily meals together yielded a Millennial atmosphere as Sri Lankan and overseas brethren grew to love one another and soon became like family. The messages during the Feast were both encouraging and thought-provoking.

Sri Lankans and visitors alike also enjoyed many Feast activities: A fun-filled family day with a wide variety of team games and challenges, a variety show displaying participant’s talents and humor, an exciting game of cricket, music wherever we traveled and some great splashes in the pool with friends.

A Feast tradition continued on “saree and sarong day”, as many of the ladies and men dressed in traditional Sri Lankan clothing—which led to a variety of beautiful colors and patterns for the Sabbath.  Visiting members were encouraged to participate and the local ladies assisted with the draping of the saree wear.

During the Feast all brethren traveled deep into the middle of Sri Lanka, where a massive column of rock juts out from the green tropical forest. It reaches 660 feet tall and features frescoes, graffiti and landscaped gardens. The rock is known as Sigiriya (see-gee-REE-yah) and holds a special place in the island’s cultural history. It was established as the stronghold of a rogue king over 1,500 years ago, and today the Sigiriya complex stands as one of the earliest preserved examples of ancient urban planning. Many enjoyed the challenging climb to the top and were able to view the beauty of Sri Lanka.

A safari excursion to the Kaudulla National Park was also enjoyed for international brethren. Jeeps were driven through rough terrain as herds of wild elephants were spotted throughout the adventure.

The 2018 Feast in Sri Lanka was uplifting and fulfilling for all, and encouraged God’s people to press toward the goal of His kingdom in every aspect of their lives this coming year.

For those interested in enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime experience in a part of the world many seldom visit—you are encouraged to come to “The Pearl of the Indian Ocean” and rejoice with your brothers and sisters at the Feast in 2019.
