Summer Camp in Ghana

A once in a life time experience, the kind that I never dreamt of: my younger sister (Juliana) and I get to travel abroad together! My heart was full of excitement, despite not knowing what to expect. The sheer joy of us having the opportunity to serve keeps us from being too nervous. We started off at the Kamuzu Lilongwe International Airport around 3pm on Tuesday, August 8. As we were high up in the air, looking at the clouds below us, I couldn't help appreciating the beauty before my eyes and then think of that which awaited us, that the eye hasn't seen nor ear heard! I'm also amazed at how much wisdom man has been given to enable him do such great things like making a plane. But this is just a tiny fraction of God's wisdom, and somehow we still doubt or worry when God says He will take care of us.

We arrived in Ghana not sure of what to expect at the immigration, since we didn't have our visas as we left Malawi. Little did we know that God had already taken care of the situation by answering all the prayers for our safe travels and favour. We got to the immigration desk, we greeted the man, he looked at Juliana's passport first then mine and asked our purpose of visit. We explained we are here as a part of the United Youth Corps group to help out with the youth camp. He asks what church, and after he got all his answer he tells us, "enjoy your stay in Ghana." After we pass the desk we were greeted by a smiling man who asked if we are Juliana and Lancy? It's just amazing that you can be so far from home, yet you feel as if you are home because of the warm welcome. Henry Aikins, aka uncle Henry, has treated us like daughters from the minute we met. We were the first of the Youth Corps team to arrive. Seconded by Paul Moody whom we got to meet the next day as he had arrived at midnight, long after we had retired to bed. He is an amazing humble man, who shared his experiences and it's just so encouraging knowing that even though there might be differences in background, but when God says we are one family, it's so evident when you are with people being led by God's Holy Spirit. Paul's time with us made us less nervous to meet the rest of the Youth Corps team. The next day we finally got to meet the remaining four. We encountered the smiling, friendly faces of Ben Light, Carl Koester, and Liana and Rebecca Novak, a group of humble accommodating and very friendly folks. The two sisters feel like long lost sisters to Juliana and me. And this gives a good start to our serving together. So diverse but one family.
