The camp is subsidized by home office funds, but additional local funds help buy new equipment, improve the campground, and meet other necessary needs.

On the first evening, world-famous variety show host Lynn Harrington* had the pleasure of introducing a variety of acts to rapturous, adoring and unending applause. From musical acts by preteens visiting from Bowling Green, Kentucky, to comedy sketches, to a performance by the king himself, Elvis Presley, the night was punctuated by regular breaks for guests to bid on a silent auction of a variety of goods donated by themselves.

The second evening had a potpourri of carnival activities for participants to enjoy after a group meal together. The climax of the evening was the now-permanent, forever-after-repeating annual tradition of a pie in the face for whomever of the three local humble servants received the most monetary donations in their favor for receiving the pie. Last year’s winner, Tim Franke, escaped his toothsome moment on account of “catching a cold.” He handily “won” again this year, and was pied twice. In solidarity with him—and for added entertainment value—the other two contenders, Gary Petty and Matt Puckett, took a pie in their respective faces, too. For the good of the children.

*World fame and the actual name of the host are a matter of contention to some.
