Tribute to Ken Martin

Since becoming Operation Manager for MMS in August 2018, I have had the privilege of getting to know Ken Martin much better than ever before. I had always enjoyed my brief interactions with Ken at many General Conference of Elders meetings over the years, but hadn’t had an opportunity to get to know him very well. I always highly respected Ken for his obvious faithfulness and dedication to God and to the Body of Christ. His example of unwavering doctrinal integrity has never been in question. Even more importantly, his example of God’s love and genuine concern for others spoke to me personally. I also enjoyed him sharing his musical talents at one of our GCE “Talent Shows”!

In addition, he and his wife, Barbara, seemed to me, the perfect ministerial couple. Barbara was always warm, friendly and very welcoming to both my wife—who shares the same name, Barbara—and to me.

As a regional pastor, Ken and I worked more closely over the past three years and my initial observations have only been strengthened. I will greatly miss our conversations, our interactions, and his kind and gentle way of handling issues and giving input.

Ken’s wife, Barbara, told me that Ken was really excited and looking forward to collaborating on and helping lead a presentation and interactive workshop on “The Power of the Gospel” at our upcoming pastoral refresher program in November.

In late spring and early summer, Ken and I, along with six other pastors, were in the same “The Word Fitly Spoken” speaking club that consisted of eight weekly meetings. I am confident I can speak for all the pastors in saying that Ken’s wisdom and input regarding the effectiveness of our sermons were highly valued and greatly appreciated. Ken’s enthusiasm for God’s way was infectious and he was a real joy to work with and a true brother in Christ!

May you all have a very inspiring and rejuvenating Sabbath and weekend!
