We live in a time of transition. In whatever nation we live, we see change and uncertainty, and all that change that is “in the air” is not necessarily for the betterment of the world.
It is perhaps in America where we sense this transition the most. The culture, the people, the social movements are taking us from what we once stood for to a place that is foreign and dark. Normal human morality, freedoms that have marked the “American” way of life, the rule of law, justice not dictated by politics, healthy debate, a respect for authority and the rights of others, a robust and open society where one is free to express their opinions and follow their own beliefs, and where truth meant something, all seem to be fading away.
The American economy, which has been the strength and bedrock of the global economy, is also in transition. Widespread inflation, skyrocketing fuel prices, supply chain issues, escalating housing costs and now rapidly increasing interest rates have taken us from a viable, stable, reliable system to one which will be labeled “recessionary” in the near future.
Yes, the nation is in a time of transition and many are questioning where it is headed. Many more see where this is leading and are disturbed at the prospect.
For us in the Church, who discern the times and understand the prophetic words of the Bible, these times should catch our attention and wake us up. When Christ was asked by His disciples, “What will be the sign of Your coming and the end of the age?” He clearly showed them what to look for. We see those signs all around us. “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed” (Romans 13:11 Romans 13:11And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
American King James Version×).
I hope we are all wide awake and aware.
As the world finds itself in this time of transition, the Church of God remains steady and focused on the return of Jesus Christ and preaching the gospel of the coming Kingdom of God. The Church of God remains anchored to our Rock and the only source of pure and unblemished truth available in the world today. It is only in Jesus Christ that we have hope.
The world and its leaders, relying on their own ideas and resources, cannot bring peace or stability or a resolution to this world’s ills. Instead, they are bringing it to ruin. It is only Jesus Christ who can save the world from destroying itself.
The world needs to hear the truth of God, and we must preach that truth to a dying world. We, as faithful Christians and disciples of Jesus Christ, must live the truth and be ever more closely learning and striving to live by “every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” and drawing close to one another and to God in this special fellowship of which we are a part.
We are His people—the “called out” ones, the firstfruits. Bearing that name and identity carries with it a huge responsibility, but God has given us His Spirit so that we can succeed in the calling He has given us. Let’s make the best use of the time we each have by individually and collectively building the spiritual temple Christ will return to. Let’s be sure we are being diligent in making our “calling and election sure” (2 Peter 1:10 2 Peter 1:10Why the rather, brothers, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never fall:
American King James Version×, King James Version).
Here at the home office we have been in a time of transition in administration for the past month or so, as you all well know. You may have been wondering what is happening and what we are doing during this time.
My wife, Debbie, and I have been in Cincinnati the past two weeks. While we weren’t able to accomplish or do everything we hoped while here this time, a lot has been done as we were able to work with the staff to begin formulating plans for the work of the Church going forward.
We will be returning to Florida for a few weeks and then moving to our new home in Cincinnati near the end of July. We are eager and looking forward to working with everyone here under the direction and guidance of the Head of this Church, Jesus Christ.
We live in much different times now than we did two and three years ago. The work of God marches on, and His will and His word will be accomplished. Jesus Christ knows exactly what He wants done and the manner in which He wants His word and message to be preached. We will seek His will, listen, follow, and do it His way. He is the way, the truth and the life.
Might I take this time to thank you all for your prayers and for the many messages we’ve received over the past month. We ask for your continuing support and prayers for God’s work, that He will lead us all in doing His will.
