UCG President and His Wife Visit Canadian Office

The long-anticipated visit from UCG President Dennis Luker and his wife, LeeAnn, started with a tour of the national office on Friday morning, May 27. After meeting the staff and taking a quick tour of the entire facility, the Lukers sat down to a soup and sandwich working luncheon with the staff. Mr. Luker shared what it was like coordinating the church office in Australia many years ago, what it is like serving in the home office today and answered spontaneous questions from the UCG-Canada office staff.

The following day, the Kitchener and Hamilton congregations combined with UCG-Toronto for the Sabbath service. A delicious finger food potluck followed thereafter in the fellowship hall, which had been beautifully decorated in vibrant spring colors. A cake welcoming the Lukers (and congratulating them on their upcoming wedding anniversary) was accompanied by a multi-signed card and an authentic Canadian gift (a jug of maple syrup) produced by a local member’s family business!

After time for eating and fellowshipping, Mr. Luker presided over a question and answer session for over an hour and half. Several individuals submitted many thought provoking questions ranging from, “Can you please highlight some of your high and low moments as president?” to, “What would it take for the Church of God groups to put aside their differences and work together to accomplish the work of God?”

Although the question and answer session ended at about 7:15 p.m., it was quite awhile before everyone was ready to leave. Throughout the day, most everyone who wanted to personally meet and talk with the Lukers were able to do so. The excitement of the day continued until the last person left the building that evening.

Our thanks go out to the Lukers for taking time out of their busy schedule to travel to Toronto to see the national office and meet with the southern Ontario brethren. The area members were delighted and grateful for the opportunity to host such a meaningful and memorable occasion.
