Times Like These
When the year began, a pandemic; a severe and sudden economic blow; race riots and protests were probably not on your radar. But now we are living with all these things. You may have said it or heard someone else say, "I have never seen times like these." No, we have not, but times like these are prophesied to come.
Yes, it looks bad, but these times create an opportunity for us to be lights in the world. God's people will shine brighter because the world is growing darker. With His Spirit leading us, we can be "children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation" and shining "as lights in the world" (Philippians 2:15)!
Times like these also give us cause to deepen our relationship with God. He will accomplish His will on earth, but before that is fulfilled much greater tribulation lies ahead. Therefore, "now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed" (Romans 13:11). Yes, though all these things have come upon us, it is an exciting time to be a Christian! It is a wonderful opportunity to draw ourselves closer to God. For if you "draw near to God, He will draw near to you" (James 4:8)! So, brethren, let's take full advantage of times like these!
As we see things going crazy around us, we can keep calm and trust God because we know He is sovereign. It is very reassuring to know with certainty that the God of the universe is on our side! Even while the world is at war with itself, we can be at peace. God "will give strength to His people" and will "bless His people with peace" (Psalms 29:11). Yes, we can have great peace, even in times like these!
