A Clear Conscience

It is in that moment when you are under pressure. You must decide how to act, and a wrong choice will bring regret. What will you do?

We experience this scenario daily, and sometimes, we regret ignoring the thoughts of our better natures. While you live in obedience to God, His Spirit acts upon your conscience, convicting you of the truth. You "delight in the law of God according to the inward man" (Romans 7:22). But there is a battle going on in your nature, "warring against the law" of your mind (Verse 23).

All of us are engaged in this battle caused by the carnal and sinful nature of our bodies.  We always want our spiritual mind to win, so that we will never be ashamed of our choices. Of course, we sometimes lose a fight, but with God's help we can still win the war. When we stand before God in the end, we want to have a good "testimony of our conscience" (2 Corinthians 1:12). We want to say, "that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God" (same verse).

But if you ignore the leading of God's Spirit on your mind, you risk losing your connection with Him. Those who go this way "are defiled and unbelieving," and "their mind and conscience are defiled" (Titus 1:15). Indeed, "some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked" (1 Timothy 1:19 NLT).

Therefore, "Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear" (Same verse NLT). And even if the ungodly criticize your choices, "God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment" (1 Peter 2:19 NLT). Keep your minds pure of evil thoughts. Then you will be able to say like the apostle Paul, "I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day" (Acts 23:1).

So always "Cling to your faith in Christ and keep your conscience clear" (1 Timothy 1:19 NLT)!

Warm regards,

Andy
