Good evening brethren and Happy Sabbath! Last week's memory verse was Proverbs 27:23 (NKJV), "Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And attend to your herds." Read below to see if you can gain some clues to this week's memory verse!
A nice visit
It was nice getting back to Ohio to visit the family this past week. I was able to help my mom out with some things around the house, spend time with family, and of course, eat Skyline Chili to my heart's content!
What do I want?
To say this past year has been crazy is an understatement. The Coronavirus has dominated the news of our world, and changed the ways we live our lives. And I think it's safe to say that it's made us all ask some hard questions about our lives. One that it brought to the forefront of my mind is this: What do I really want out of life?
Right off the bat, my mind goes to physical things - money, houses, cars, even health. But if I had all of that that I wanted, would I really be content? Probably not. So what is it I really want?
Try again - what do you REALLY want?
In Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Simple Man', his mother tells him all she really wants for her son, is 'to be satisfied.' I think ultimately, that's it. What we all want, is to be satisfied, happy, and content with our lives. So the real question becomes, what does it take to satisfy us?
Where can I find it?
Knowing physical things all fade away, there's only one place to find true contentment, and that of course is through God. But since we can't be God the Father, or Jesus Christ the Son, how can we be like God?
We can be like God, by trying to act like God - that quality of godliness. When we recognize this, and make this our ultimate pursuit, we will gain true contentment!
