Letter From Dan Preston

December 4, 2020

Greetings brethren and Happy Sabbath!  Last week's memory verse was Jeremiah 30:7 (NKJV), "Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it; And it is the time of Jacob's trouble, but he shall be saved out of it." Read below to see if you can declare some clues for this week's memory verse!

Romeo, oh Romeo...

Have you ever watched an old television sitcom where a young man is determined to declare his love for his sweetheart?  It often involves him being shy and not knowing what to say or how to say it.  So, with help from family or friends, he winds up down on one knee, outsider her bedroom window, declaring his love for her in desperate hopes she will declare it back.

As you probably know, this old standby routine comes from Romeo and Juliet.  It's a timeless, classic tale that has been done hundreds of times.  It's a sweet gesture, and sometimes, good for a laugh or two along the way.

Not all love is alike

Have you ever declared your love to someone, or perhaps had someone declare their love for you?  It can be pretty awkward, especially if they don't return it.  But did you know there is a love you can declare, that will always be returned, guaranteed?

That of course is the love of God.  It's a different type of love than what the sitcoms show.  Not romantic, puppy love, but genuine love.  The kind of love that was in Christ, and caused Christ to lay down His life for us.

Love is declared

Jesus Christ was not shy to declare not only the name of, but love for, the Father.  That love - that perfect, agape love - with which Christ was loved by God, is the same love that was in Christ.  Through Christ, we must have that love in us, motivating us to be just like our elder brother.

Let us never be shy to declare the love with which God loved not only loved His son, but with which He loves us, and expects us to have as well.  With this, we truly declare the love of God!
