Letter From Dan Preston

November 18, 2022

Greetings brethren and Happy Sabbath!  There are a few special things to note for services tomorrow:

  • The Charlotte congregation will be having a Teen Bible Study right after services tomorrow.
  • The Columbia congregation will be watching a recording of last week's services in Charlotte.  You'll get a chance to hear from a special guest speaker from the Medford, OR congregation.
  • The Hickory congregation will be having a potluck and post Feast Social.

Whos' responsible here?

You've probably either experienced a situation or seen something in a movie where some sort of comedic disaster occurs (think Ethel and Lucy in the candy factory), and after a huge mess has been made, some authority figure arrives and asks: "Who's responsible here????"

While this is often done in a humorous ways for sitcoms, there's something to be considered for that phrase.  In every aspect of life, whether it be comedic disaster or otherwise, it can be useful to consider who is responsible for things.  Take for instance your relationship with the Church as whole.  Who exactly is responsible for that?

One body

The answer is pretty obvious - it's you!  We are all responsible for our relationship with the larger part of the body of Christ.  "For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many." (1 Corinthians 12:12-14)  Just like each part of our physical body has a responsibility, so do we as members of the church!

Take responsibility

In tomorrow's teen Bible study, we are going to talk about the responsibilities we have to the rest of the body of Christ.  There are lots of different aspect we could consider, but tomorrow we will be focusing on getting to know your fellow members of the body and learning how to better show love to them.

While the study will be focused on how to do those things as teens, I'm sure we can all think about how we can best do these things as adults. Learning to listen, developing our prayers to be specific and detailed for one another and being intentional in our interactions are some good places to start.

Tomorrow is a wonderful opportunity to take our responsibility of being a part of the body of Christ seriously.  Have a wonderful and blessed Sabbath!
