Letter From Dan Preston

November 22, 2019

Good evening and Happy Sabbath!  Last week's memory verse was Luke 18:8 (NKJV), "I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?" I trust you will really lean into this week's letter to figure out the new memory scripture!

Allegations....allegations everywhere!

It's virtually impossible to escape the media buzz about the impeachment hearings that occurred this week.  At the center of the controversy is President Trump. The controversy itself? Did he strike a deal with Ukrainian officials to create negative press about his opposition, Joe Biden, in return for favors once elected?  The allegation was that Biden, while vice president, used his influence to stop the investigation of a Ukrainian company his son, Hunter Biden, worked for.

The truth

So what really happened in this scenario?  This who scenario involves dozens of people and played out over a number of years.  Getting to the bottom of things will be a tall order. Will the truth ever be told? How will those tasked with the responsibility of investigating even be able to discern what the truth is if it's unveiled?

There will no doubt be endless e-mails to sort through, witnesses to be interviewed, and of course - the following of the money.  Will we ever understand completely what happened? I seriously doubt it, at least not in this lifetime!

Our lives

Going past this messy story of politics, what can we glean from this as Christians?  I think one very important lesson to learn is that of discernment. Telling the truth from a lie.  How can we do that? Just like everything else in our lives, in order to have real understanding, we need God's help!

We live in a world where we cannot put absolute trust in our politicians.  Nor can we put absolute trust in the news media that reports on them, biasing the news with their own personal leanings.  While we can all be fooled by human reasoning - either someone else's or our own - we do have one source we can lean on and trust with all our hearts - the Lord!
