Letter From Dan Preston

November 6, 2020

Good evening brethren and Happy Sabbath! Last week's memory scripture was 1 Corinthians 11:19 (NKJV), "For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you."  I hope you can find some clues to this week's memory verse in the letter below!

Really??? This is SO 2020...

That's what most people are saying after this week's election.  With 2020 being what it has been, you didn't really think the election would go smoothly, did you?!?!!!  As many predicted, we are likely in for a long legal battle and probably won't have a definitive result for weeks if not months.

A lot of concern

Many have fear that the truth of the results of the election may never be known.  Others feel that the results are clear, and await with meekness, putting their faith and hope in the system, trusting that the truth will finally be revealed.

While it's hard to know exactly what will happen, it seems inevitable that friends, co-workers and even random strangers will likely ask us "What do YOU think will happen?"  It's a sensitive subject, but we must be ready to give an answer!

Nothing to fear

As faithful followers of Jesus Christ, we cannot let the fears that consume so much of our society trounce our hopes.  Our hope lies ultimately beyond this election, or even the system of government that conducts them.  Our hope lies in our Lord God!

While there is - and will continue to be - tension and contentions over this election, you and I can be at peace.  We should continue to live in a way that sanctifies, or sets first, God in our hearts.  And when people ask why we're not worried, we should be ready to give an answer for the amazing hope we have!
