Letter From Dan Preston

September 4, 2020

Greetings brethren and Happy Sabbath!  Last week's memory verse was the latter part Mark 9:35 (NKJV), "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."  In it, we examined how we can be better servants.  Also, if you have a recommendation for someone you feel should be considered for ordination as a deacon or deaconess, please contact me by next Sabbath, September 12th, 2020.

Now, see if you can reveal some secret clues to this week's memory verse!

Shhh....it's a secret!

Who doesn't love a good secret.  Perhaps a friend has let you in on a surprise party they're throwing for their spouse.  Or maybe at work, you happen to know that there's going to be a special bonus given out to all employees because of an exceptional quarter.  Whatever it is, we all love secrets!

Of course the hardest thing about secrets, is keeping them a secret.  It only takes one wrong word or sharing it with the wrong person to ruin a good secret.

Not-so-secret secrets

Sometimes, we think things are a secret, when in fact, everyone else already knows.  I remember playing hide and seek at a friend's house with he and his younger sister.  We though we were doing really well and hiding for a long time.  Come to find out, she figured out where we were right away, then got bored and decided to go play outside.  Our secret wasn't such a secret after all!

Then of course, there's another kind of secret.  The kind where we think no one else at all knows, not even a close friend.  But the reality is, God above knows all secrets!

For His glory

While we might think of this type of secret as a bad thing - such as if we're trying to hide a sin - the fact is, there are many good secrets that God only knows.  When Christ will return, what role He has for you in the kingdom and how many billions will be brought back to life in the second resurrection.  All very happy secrets!

Only God, the true God of gods, and Lord of kings, can reveal these secrets.  Here's to looking forward to the day when He shares these many happy secrets with us!
