Letter From Frank Fish

November 5, 2020

Hello!

Women's Discussion Group - notes have been posted for this week's meeting on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at 7:30 pm - Zoom link is embedded in the calendar post.

Food Drive update - The scope of the USDA Food Box program is much larger than we originally had been told with multiple or even weekly deliveries possible.  This will be good news for the many families who could use more support.  With this in mind, Ted Budge was able to guide us to partner with the USC Office of Community and Local Government Partnerships and their ongoing relationship with the YMCA Los Angeles.  These two organizations have the location and infrastructure to increase the deliveries and to now make distribution possible.  We are waiting on the shipping dates and then will choose a date for our congregation to offer support.

Bible Study Topics - The elders would like to solicit your input on topics and themes for our proposed twice monthly Bible Study via Zoom.  Please take a moment to answer our two question Bible Study Survey.  This is our second week to gather your input.

2020 Post Festival Survey - If you have signed up for direct emails from the Home Office you will find a link in your inbox for a survey about the Feast of Tabernacles.

This week's Sabbath Services, November 7, 2020:

  • Bakersfield at Green Acres Community Center will be indoors as permitted by Kern County -  2:00 pm winter start time.  Messages will be brought by Bob King and John Karlik.
  • Los Angeles, another Beta Test In Person Outdoor Service at Rose City Church from which we will arrange a live Zoom feed - 2:30 pm.  As with our previous tests, we will follow standard social distance protocols and wear mask while on location.  We will have two messages from Jonathan Reimann and myself.
  • If you plan to attend the Los Angeles in person service, please let us know via this Attendance Link.  But don't worry, if you change your mind on Sabbath morning go ahead and come.

What to expect for the in Person Rose City Service:

  • What to bring:  Mask, camp chair, blanket if it gets cool, umbrella in case of rain, Bible, beverage and desire to fellowship.
  • Restrooms:  We have access to the restrooms inside the Rose City facility.
  • Parking:  As we will use the north parking lot for seating this time, there should be ample parking on site on the East side of the building
  • Audio:  We plan to test using outdoor audio speakers this week; this is different than in August when we used your mobile phone and then the professional grade tour headsets.
  • Check-in:  We will ask the standard health screen questions (like in the work place) and take temperatures.
    1. Have you been tested positive or diagnosed with COVID-19?
    2. Have you had any of these symptoms in the past 14 days: fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle ache, loss of smell or taste, headache or sore throat?
    3. Have you been in contact with anyone displaying the above symptoms within the last 14 days?
    4. If you experience these symptoms within the following 10 days, do you agree to notify your local pastor.
  • Special Note on Weather:  We are aware that temperatures may drop severely for Sabbath and rain could be in the forecast.  If the conditions look unsuitable for an outdoor service on Sabbath morning we will let you know via the contact details you provide -- which is why we are asking you to complete the link and let us know of your desire to attend. Upcoming Services:

Reminder we will have in-person services on November 21, December 5, 19.  Bakersfield will be able to meet indoors, while Los Angeles will be in the north parking lot (allowing for more parking on site).

On the alternate weeks we will meet via Zoom - this will allow us a buffer between in-person services to help reduce exposure to Covid-19.

See you Tomorrow!

All the Best,
