Letter From Roc Corbett

July 28, 2017

Dear brethren,

In our series on "The Ten Commandments" we are now up to number seven, "You shall not commit adultery."  In the sermon this Sabbath I'll be approaching this subject by using the principle found in 1 Corinthians 15:46, "The spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual."  With this principle in mind, we'll look at physical meanings and applications so that we can understand more fully the spiritual intent and purpose for this part of God's good and perfect law.  With God's Spirit guiding and enlightening us, we can search the Scriptures that teach us about the seventh commandment, and see some of "the deep things of God" on this very important subject (1 Cor. 2:10).

Because this subject is so personal, and deals with matters that are quite sensitive to many people, and knowing that there are children who will hear the message, I will be no more graphic than the descriptions inspired in the Bible.  But, I will be no less direct than the wording of Scripture, either.  Many of these issues are openly displayed in our "modern" society, and we--and our children--need to know the truth about these matters, so that we are equipped to choose what is right and to defend our faith.

In order to properly expound the seventh commandment, some things must be addressed forthrightly.  This includes descriptions and examples from the Scriptures about the physical and the spiritual breaking of this commandment.  Most people do not understand that the seventh commandment has spiritual meaning and application, too.  But it does, and the Bible is quite clear on this part of the subject.  It is in some of these sections of Scripture that God reveals important aspects of the wonderful and beautiful spiritual reasons for which He gave us the seventh commandment.  My prayer is that we will gain a greater appreciation for this part of God's law, and God will write this lesson in our minds and on our hearts.

In Christian love,
