Today as we prepare to celebrate the Day of Pentecost tomorrow. I thought it might be helpful to review the events that led up to the first Shavuot celebration of ancient Israel. Pentecost is the New Covenant term we use for this Holyday. In the Old Testament it was referred to as Shavuot, and the Festival of Reaping, and also the Day of the Firstfruits. The book of Exodus chapters 15-19 record the nearly 50 days from crossing the Red Sea on the 7th day of Unleavened Bread… until the congregation of Israel received the 10 commandments on the day of Shavuot in 1443BC. I hope to provide a possible scenario of the time frame. Let’s see what they experienced and what lessons we can learn from them during our journey of life.
