Sometimes we fall and stumble over small things and we don’t often pay enough to the details in a matter. We can stumble over the smallest of things; a little stone, stumbling block or a pebble on a trail. In the Bible, a lot of time is spent dealing with the order of things and great care had to be taken by a physical people! We see this over and over again in chapters of the Bible as in Chronicles, Numbers and elsewhere. How much more so should we be careful as a spiritual people?

Sermon Notes

Introduction: Greetings Friends and welcome to our guests. Funny Story: Sometimes details and perceptions seem different. A British dilemma: Mrs. Woit in the town of Salisbury, England just south of Stonehenge. The lady, Mrs. Woit, proprietress of a B&B with a son in the British Air Force who was stationed in Yuma and getting practice at the gunnery range near the Marine Airbase. How do you spell “Woit”? “W-H-I-T-E”, pronounced “white”. Then I remember a saying from a British movie declaring the Americans had not spoken English in over 200 years. We all should be aware of the need to have “attention to details”. Example of a Job: Let me give an example of a job I had. As a chemist I worked at the City of Phoenix laboratory in a clean room analyzing ultra low mercury down to parts per trillion.

We had certain strict protocols for operation and entrance to the clean room: we had special air handlers, filtration, clean room garments and face masks and special booties; we don such in a special pre-clean room then after donning the special gear and only then could we enter the clean room to do the actual analysis. With out the protocols any results of sample analysis could be compromised and the results invalidated and the City could get a bad report and have its analyses called into question We report to the EPA for quality assurance –periodic testing of unknown samples: Example of failed test: 25 ppt vs 50ppt We analyzed down to 0.2 ppb but this method required us going down to 1000 times lower than to the ppt result Failed at none point: Now I failed the test because I lost focus - perhaps I was listening to the radio-either news or music, or pondering past or future events. Whatever it was, upon later investigation I must have doubled spiked since I had to add a known amount of standard to my sample tube thus my result was exactly two times too high.

I just got careless and failed the test. Now consider this, Biblically there were many things to be done in a certain order according to the commands from God. Sometimes, and perhaps often, we don’t always understand why. The title of my split sermon is “Attention to Details” Body: 1. Seemingly Little Things in Life: Now spiritually we as physical humans have a tendency to do things our own way and incrementally diminish what God would have us to do. This can readily be seen in society today as we drift further and further and reject God Turn to Numbers 4:11-15 (We read what seems like laborious rituals.) 11 “Over the golden altar they shall spread a blue cloth, and cover it with a covering of badger skins; and they shall insert its poles. 12 Then they shall take all the utensils of service with which they minister in the sanctuary, put them in a blue cloth, cover them with a covering of badger skins, and put them on a carrying beam. 13 Also they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth over it. 14 They shall put on it all its implements with which they minister there—the firepans, the forks, the shovels, the basins, and all the utensils of the altar—and they shall spread on it a covering of badger skins, and insert its poles. 15 And when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is set to go, then the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them; but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. “These are the things in the tabernacle of meeting which the sons of Kohath are to carry. We see things like this repeated over and over again in many passages of the Bible. Thus the question again: “So, how much more should we be careful as a spiritual people?” As a People and as Christians, the more we look the more we as a Nation seem to be marching irrevocably into ever dangerous times - as one author called it “Slouching toward Gomorrah”

Reminds me of 2 Peter 2:6 (NKJV) 6and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; Today, Society increasingly minimizes sin: Proverbs 18:5 (YLT) Acceptance of the face of the wicked is not good, To turn aside the righteous in judgment. Comment: Acceptance & compromise w/evil: Many years ago I had few very favorite newspapers, but most have gone the way of “all the news unfit to print”. Read: Prov 28:2 (NLT) When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But with wise and knowledgeable leaders, there is stability. More horrible news today: Example of Abortion in 4th Trimester= Murder A news caster said “When does life begin? I submit the answer depends an awful lot on the feeling of the parents. Some are advancing abortion after the birth of a child up to 3 years of age. In the May–June 2013 Good News Magazine: article entitled “Child Sacrifice: We’re Not So Different Today”.

Turn to: Jeremiah 32:32-36 (NKJV) 34 But they set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to defile it. 35 And they built the high places of Baal which are in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come into My mind that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.’ 36 “Now therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, ‘It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence’: Also turn to 2 Kings 23:9-10…Nevertheless the priests of the high places did not go up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brothers. 10He also defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter pass through the fire for Molech.

Remember Also: Pharaoh killed the children up to get at the first-born. Herod, too attempted to kill the Christ along with other babies 2. The Spiritual. Let us consider something concerning the details in so many chapters of the Bible: For example the words “fine linen and linen” appear over 90times in the Scriptures. Is there more to this than meets the eye at first glance? With some of these things in mind, let us consider the depth and details of our spiritual lives. Consider the depth of what is said concerning what might appear as a mundane and insignificant thing in many verse. What of the word linen? Do we just gloss over whole sections of Scripture?

Turn to Revelation 19:5-8 5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both[a] small and great!”6 And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the[b] Lord God Omnipotent reigns! 7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” 8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. In a world and age beset by strife and struggle we seek courage and strength from God. Renew a right Spirit in me! Psalm 51:9-11 9Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Turn to Deuteronomy 30:15-17 (NKJV) 15“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. 17But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, A warning for all time: Deuteronomy 31:29 (NKJV) For I know that after my death you will become utterly corrupt, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you. And evil will befall you in the latter days, because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger through the work of your hands.”

In an UCG message are we a “Stumbling block or a Building Block” July 13th, by Steve Myers? If we lose attention to detail then we are on dangerous ground. EXAMPLE: Stumbling down Masada- running and forgot about being careful and I stumbled near the base of the trail – even after warning a young man about running down too fast. But sure enough I was careless and tripped over a small cluster of rocks gouging my knee severely! I did NOT pay attention to details. Isa 57:14-15 (NLT) 14 God says, “Rebuild the road! Clear away the rocks and stones so my people can return from captivity.” 15 The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts. Be aware of the attention to details; it is so easy to forget and drift. Society today as then Deuteronomy 13:1-6 (NKJV) 1“If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, 2and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’ 3you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him. 5But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to entice you from the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall put away the evil from your midst. 3. Forsake Not Forsake no the assembly of selves especially in latter days. Side Note: Many believe in the Sabbath, but vary greatly in the how. What of fellowship? Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV) 11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

2 Timothy 4:2-5 (NKJV) Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. Conclusion: We are a weak and small people and we need to be "Attentive to Details?" Follow the Scriptures carefully to get the right answers If you want correct answers in your physical doing then watch the process, watch the details, follow the protocols and you do well. Likewise, if you want the correct spiritual answers remove wrongdoing in your life and follow the way of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Follow Christ in all things We look forward to beautiful days ahead following the storm of life: Hab 2:14 For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, Now here is a detail we should not forget: Now real hope for the future Isa 19: 12, 19-20, 23-25 (NKJV) 12 Where are they? Where are your wise men? Let them tell you now, And let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed against Egypt. 19 In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the LORD at its border. 20 And it will be for a sign and for a witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the LORD because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Mighty One, and He will deliver them. 23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians. 24 In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria—a blessing in the midst of the land, 25 whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, “Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.”
