Ryan McNeely compares Christ’s promise of the Passover, “I will not leave you orphans,” to the analogy presented in Ezekiel 16 of the Lord depicting the nation of Israel as an orphan; how He saved this orphan; how she grew into a beautiful woman; and the Lord taking the beautiful orphan as His bride. This orphan became the Lord’s wife through grace, but she turned her back on the Husband. Nevertheless, the Lord provided atonement by which the marriage may once again be made whole. This admonition and hope are pictured coming out of Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread as this salvation and the grace of the Holy Spirit were freely given beginning with Pentecost to the betrothed bride of Christ—the Church.
