Prayer is what we say to God; the Bible is how God communicates with us. Good communication is two ways; with the conversation being contributed by both parties. We need to WANT to study, to hunger for God's Word the way a newborn hungers for its mothers' milk. As we internalize God's Word, it will become part of our character.
