We will not always understand why we are in a trial or its purpose. Maintaining our faith and trust in the goodness and righteousness of God is important as we experience a severe trial. God’s purpose for us is perfect and complete regardless of the severity of our trial. It is more important to be ready to help people as they are going through their trial rather than trying to diagnose why they are in the trial. The story of Job also demonstrates our human capacity to be at odds with God, even if living a righteous life.

Roger Korthuis served in the ministry of the United Church of God from 2016 until his death in January 2019. He pastored the congregation in Sedro-Woolley, Washington.
