Through our prayers to God, we have instant access to the most powerful being ever. What if you could pick up the phone and reach out to the person who had the most power. James 5:16, "Confess faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous one avails much." Today lets talk about how to have an effective prayer.

Sermon Notes

Mr. Buckmaster Ephesians 2:15 Ephesians 2:15Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of two one new man, so making peace;
American King James Version×
2:15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity (the Law of commandments contained in ordinances) so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, making peace between them;  2:16 and so that He might reconcile both to God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity in Himself.  2:17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off, and to those who were near.  2:18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.  2:19 Now therefore you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God,  2:20 and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,  2:21 in whom every building having been fitly framed together, grows into a holy sanctuary in the Lord;  2:22 in whom you also are built together for a dwelling place of God through the Spirit. Through our prayers to God, we have instant access to the most powerful being ever. What if you could pick up the phone and reach out to the person who had the most power. James 5:16 James 5:16Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

5:16 Confess faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous one avails much. Today lets talk about how to have an effective prayer.

Psalms 141:1-2 Psalms 141:1-2 [1] Lord, I cry to you: make haste to me; give ear to my voice, when I cry to you. [2] Let my prayer be set forth before you as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
American King James Version×
141:1 A Psalm of David. O Jehovah, I cry to You; make haste to me, give ear to my voice when I cry to You.  141:2 Let my prayer be set forth before You as incense, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. How does God listen to us and process our prayers? Matthew 6:7 Matthew 6:7But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
American King James Version×
6:7 But when you pray, do not babble vain words, as the nations. For they think that in their much speaking they shall be heard. What does prayer actually mean? It means we are talking to our best friend about anything that is on our mind. A friend who has the power to do anything we ask of him. And a friend has given his life already for us. 4 Points to help us pray more effectively

1. We must make sure that God hears us. How do we make sure this happens. 1 John 3:22 1 John 3:22And whatever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
American King James Version×
3:22 And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. Receiving what we ask is conditional. We know God is listening if we keep his commandments. Isaiah 59:2 Isaiah 59:2But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
American King James Version×
59:2 But your iniquities have come between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, from hearing. That's pretty clear. To ensure he hears our prayers, we must keep his commandments and do what is pleasing in his sight.

2. Our prayer requests must be according to God's will. We can't pray for things that would go against God's will. 1 John 5:  5:14 And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  5:15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. If it is asked in confidence, according to Gods will, he will hear us and answer us. James 4:3 James 4:3You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it on your lusts.
American King James Version×
4:3 You ask and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it upon your lusts. We need to focus on others in our prayers. Not just on ourselves or with selfish desires. The circumstances we find ourselves in, often dictate the kind of prayer we give.

3. We must ask in faith. James 1:6 James 1:6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
American King James Version×
1:6 But let him ask in faith, doubting nothing. For he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.  1:7 For do not let that man think that he shall receive anything from the Lord;  1:8 he is a double-minded man, not dependable in all his ways. Faith is our gyroscope. It allows us to keep our heading as we travel through the rough seas of life. Hebrews 11:6 Hebrews 11:6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
American King James Version×
11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Faith is a requirement to please God. 4. We must be persistent in our prayers 1 Thessalonians 5:21 1 Thessalonians 5:21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
American King James Version×
5:21 Prove all things, hold fast to the good. Matthew 24:13 Matthew 24:13But he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.
American King James Version×
24:13 But he who endures to the end, the same shall be kept safe.

Jeremiah 29:13 Jeremiah 29:13And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.
American King James Version×
29:13 And you shall seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 1 Thessalonians 5:17Pray without ceasing.
American King James Version×
5:17 Pray without ceasing. We must be persistent in our prayers and have faith that God will answer them in his time frame.
