SPQ: How does the Lust-Sin-Death connection relate to the Spring Festival season?
Our lusts and sins constantly threaten to separate each one of us from our Father. However, the good news is that we have been justified by and through Jesus Christ through His life, suffering, death and resurrection. Our Father does not just want to simply open lines of communication so we can learn to get along with Him. He wants us to stop being his enemy and enter into a peaceful relationship with Him.
Because of our corrupt human nature we spend our lives trying to selfishly satisfy the desires of our bodies and minds. This selfishness is counterproductive to the happiness and fulfillment we crave and actually produces suffering and death. Our Father, out of His HESED, His loving-kindness and marvelous mercies, reaches across the divide to reconcile us to Himself through Jesus Christ and to provide us the ability to change our nature by daily taking in the Bread of Life and by developing the mind of Christ in us. This does not mean that our Father’s grace nullifies His law or justice. Our Father’s law defines sin, which pronounces the death penalty on the guilty. He did not abolish His law, since that would require a change in His definition of good and evil. He did not declare unconditional amnesty, since that would absolve human beings from accountability.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
