Are you acquainted with the name Carl Sagan? Our young people or youth – maybe not so much. Those who are in their 30s or older, probably most of us are acquainted with the name. Carl Sagan was one of the most famous scientists of this past century (the 20th century). Cosmos, Carl Sagan’s award-winning television program, aired during the early 1980s in over 60 countries, and was viewed by hundreds of millions of people. Carl Sagan died of cancer almost 20 years ago, back in 1997. Carl Sagan did not believe in the existence of God. However during his illness with cancer, thousands of people wrote him to say they were praying for him. PSALM 53:1 “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” How incredulous – how unbelievable – do you think this scripture would have sounded to the famous astronomer and astrophysicist Carl Sagan! Carl Sagan could not imagine or understand any purpose for human life! If we conclude there is no God, isn’t it difficult to accept that human life has any purpose or meaning? Brethren, we have the blessing of knowing and understanding life’s purpose – and to know why we were born!

John Cafourek

(1945-2017)

John Cafourek (1945-2017) served in the ministry of Jesus Christ with his wife, Sandy, for 46 years.

John was born in South Dakota. He attended Ambassador College in Pasadena, California, from 1965 to 1969, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received a Master’s Degree in psychological counseling from Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in 1978. John pastored churches in Nebraska, North Dakota, Missouri, Mississippi, Washington, and Oregon.
