Hope, particularly in difficult and challenging times, is something of critical importance. The loss of hope under any circumstances can lead to many ills and the making of destructive decisions.

Sermon Notes

A partial set of Scriptures used:

"HOPE"

(Col 1:24)  I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church,
(Col 1:25)  of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God,
(Col 1:26)  the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints.
(Col 1:27)  To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
(Col 1:28)  Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

Psa 71:1  In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be put to shame.
Psa 71:2  Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; Incline Your ear to me, and save me.
Psa 71:3  Be my strong refuge, To which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, For You are my rock and my fortress.
(Psa 71:4)  Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
(Psa 71:5)  For You are my hope, O Lord GOD; You are my trust from my youth.
(Psa 71:6)  By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother's womb. My praise shall be continually of You.
(Psa 71:7)  I have become as a wonder to many, But You are my strong refuge.
(Psa 71:9)  Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails.
(Psa 71:10)  For my enemies speak against me; And those who lie in wait for my life take counsel together,
(Psa 71:11)  Saying, "God has forsaken him; Pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him."
(Psa 71:12)  O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste to help me!
(Psa 71:13)  Let them be confounded and consumed Who are adversaries of my life; Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor Who seek my hurt.
(Psa 71:14)  But I will hope continually, And will praise You yet more and more.

Psa 71:15  My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And Your salvation all the day, For I do not know their limits.
Psa 71:16  I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only.
Psa 71:17  O God, You have taught me from my youth; And to this day I declare Your wondrous works.
Psa 71:18  Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come.
Psa 71:19  Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high, You who have done great things; O God, who is like You?
Psa 71:20  You, who have shown me great and severe troubles, Shall revive me again, And bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

(Psa 119:43)  And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, For I have hoped in Your ordinances.

Psa 130:1  A Song of Ascents. Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD;
Psa 130:2  Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications.
Psa 130:3  If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
Psa 130:4  But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.
Psa 130:5  I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope.
(Psa 130:7)  O Israel, hope in the LORD; For with the LORD there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption.
(Psa 130:8)  And He shall redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

(Psa 147:11)  The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy.

(Jer 17:5)  Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.
(Jer 17:7)  "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD.

(Act 2:25)  For David says concerning Him: 'I FORESAW THE LORD ALWAYS BEFORE MY FACE, FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, THAT I MAY NOT BE SHAKEN.
(Act 2:26)  THEREFORE MY HEART REJOICED, AND MY TONGUE WAS GLAD; MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL REST IN HOPE.
(Act 2:27)  FOR YOU WILL NOT LEAVE MY SOUL IN HADES, NOR WILL YOU ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO SEE CORRUPTION.
(Act 2:28)  YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE; YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF JOY IN YOUR PRESENCE.'

(1Th 4:13)  But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.

(Rom 4:16)  Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all
(Rom 4:17)  (as it is written, "I HAVE MADE YOU A FATHER OF MANY NATIONS") in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
(Rom 4:18)  who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "SO SHALL YOUR DESCENDANTS BE."
(Rom 4:19)  And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb.
(Rom 4:20)  He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
(Rom 4:21)  and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
(Rom 4:22)  And therefore "IT WAS ACCOUNTED TO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS."

(Rom 4:23)  Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him,
(Rom 4:24)  but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead,
(Rom 4:25)  who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.

(Rom 5:1)  Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Rom 5:2  through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Rom 5:3  And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
Rom 5:4  and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Rom 5:5  Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Rom 5:6  For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Rom 5:7  For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.
Rom 5:8  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 5:9  Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

(Rom 8:24)  For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?
(Rom 8:25)  But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.
(Rom 8:26)  Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
(Rom 8:27)  Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
(Rom 8:28)  And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

(Rom 15:4)  For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
(Rom 15:5)  Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,
(Rom 15:6)  that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(Rom 15:7)  Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.
(Rom 15:8)  Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers,
(Rom 15:9)  and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: "FOR THIS REASON I WILL CONFESS TO YOU AMONG THE GENTILES, AND SING TO YOUR NAME."
(Rom 15:10)  And again he says: "REJOICE, O GENTILES, WITH HIS PEOPLE!"
(Rom 15:11)  And again: "PRAISE THE LORD, ALL YOU GENTILES! LAUD HIM, ALL YOU PEOPLES!"
(Rom 15:12)  And again, Isaiah says: "THERE SHALL BE A ROOT OF JESSE; AND HE WHO SHALL RISE TO REIGN OVER THE GENTILES, IN HIM THE GENTILES SHALL HOPE."
(Rom 15:13)  Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Even as we face problems, we HAVE HOPE IN THE LORD.
