Jacob gains his father Isaac's blessing through lies and trickery, and later is tricked by Rachel's father, Laban, into waiting an extra seven years for her hand in marriage (Gen. 27 and Gen. 29). Through wrestling with God, Jacob learns that blessings come by righteous overcoming and prevailing with God—not through clever schemes and deception (Gen.32:24-30).
