The way to make a Christian difference is by having a close relationship and fellowship with our Holy Father and His Son, and we must have that same fellowship with each other.

Sermon Notes

Those who wish to make a difference must have a relationship with those they want to make a difference for. Have you seen someone struggling and know what is needed, and say so, but then get rebuffed?  Making a difference requires that we our willing to be corrected by God and to have a close relationship with Him and with Jesus Christ.  1 John 1:1-3; Our fellowship is with the Father and His Son! (v.5 - 7), and we must have that fellowship with each other.  Philippians 2:5; The mind of Christ is or should be in you.  1 John 2:3; We know Christ when we obey God.  Abide in, dwell in, soak up God's word. Ephesians 5:1; Be imitators of God - an offering and a sacrifice to God.  Do what Christ did (He already showed us what He would do).  (v.8) Stay away from the darkness and walk in the light!  (see also 1 Corinthians 11:1-2). John 13:34-35; Then new commandment - Loving God and loving one another is the sign of a true disciple of Jesus Christ.  Loving God requires a deep relationship with Him, and loving one another requires that we are mindful of what we say and what we do. Galatians 6:1-2; Bear and share each others burdens, (v.9) and don't get tired of doing it!  Be ready to do good to all.  Sometimes you need to do more than just call and say hi.  1 Corinthians 12:4; God has given us a diversity of spiritual gifts that we should use in helping each other and serving Him. We can also make a Christian difference with what we say.  1 Thessalonians 5:8; We need to be careful how we verbally treat each other.  God judges every idle word.  God didn't appoint us to wrath.  Avoid put downs, gossip, snips, verbal shots and sarcasm. Ephesians 5:4; We should not engage in filthiness, course jesting or foolish talking, but rather of giving thanks. Matthew 12:36; When we talk we need to be accurate.  We have to account for every idle word, whether justified, found innocent or condemned.  We must develop trust.  Philippians 2:1-4; We must look out for one another.  Matthew 25:34-36; Look for opportunities to serve and make a difference.  (v.40) Our brethren our Christ's brethren. We should build trust with one another.  Broken trust is very hard to repair!  Remember Christ's mercy with the adulteress!  Romans 15:5-6; We should have one mind, and one mouth that glorifies God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
