The Great Seal of the United States contains in Latin the phrase "E Pluribus Unum" which has the meaning "Out of many, one." this same goal was set for the church when Jesus prayed to his Father the night before his death, "Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are." John 17:11 NKJV. Sadly America has failed to obtain this goal, so how can we know the church will fulfill it? In his Pentecost sermon Mr. Smith shows that this unity can only be achieved in the church through the working of God's spirit in each of our lives.
Gary Smith was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, but spent most of his youth in the Pasadena, California area. He graduated from Ambassador College in 1976 and he and his wife, Liz, moved to Peoria, Illinois. For the next six years he worked as a nursing home administrator in Illinois, Ohio, and Texas.
In 1982, he and Liz began to serve in the full-time ministry. Since that time, they have served in a number of congregations in the Midwest.
Gary and Liz now pastor in Houston, Texas near their two children and grandson.
