Many scriptures emphasize perseverance and faithfulness as an essential key to salvation. Israel’s travel from Egyptian slavery to the Promised Land of Canaan is a type of a Christian’s journey to eternal life in the Kingdom of God. This parallel is made clear in Hebrews, chapters 3 and 4, plus the number one theme of Hebrews is spiritual perseverance. In the Olivet Prophecy, Jesus warned that God’s people would face many kinds of persecution, betrayals, trials and temptations, and emphasized “he who endures to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13). We must steadfastly persevere by staying close to God until we enter the “Promised Land.”
